What is a Booking Engine?

A booking engine is the module that sells rooms on the property's behalf: the guest picks the dates and the rate, pays, and completes the booking without anyone at the front desk touching it. It is not a contact form and not an enquiry someone has to process — the room leaves inventory the moment it is booked.

Rates and availability come from the same tape chart the front desk works in, so the guest sees what is really free rather than yesterday's numbers. And the booking an OTA would have taken a cut of comes straight to you.
